A1 Grandprix 2008

I had better put on my swimsuit, that much rain was falling down during the A1 Grandprix at Zandvoort.

Because of the weather forecast we left for Zandvoort much later then usual, then still dry. Just arrived at the circuit the rain began to fall and the wind was getting stronger. We were just on time to see the all new A1-cars "Powered by Ferrari" start there installation laps. Wow, what a sound ! The Grandprix has two races, the so called sprint race and the feature race, both driven under very bad weather conditions. There was so much water falling down, on the ground and the circuit, that for some moment I thougt: "It's a open water swimming event ! "

Jeroen Bleekemolen raced again for Holland.
Lucky for us we stayed out of the wind and rain and managed to see most of the races. Before the feature race there was a drivers parade, a Brasilian samba-band with dansing girls in very tiny bikinis, fighterjets and prime-minister Balkenende announcing the start of the race.
Rain or wind, it doesn't matter !
Despite the weather the ambiance was good, everybody enjoyed the spectacle. The Dutch team in the end wasn't performing s well and finished in the sprint race fourth and in the feature race fifth. Hopefully next year the weather is better....
